The high school is unique in that students receive a well rounded education that promotes an atmosphere of mutual respect for humanity amongst students, members of staff, and the community. It provides an equal opportunity for boys and girls to excel in academic and skill development and it helps students to think and learn independently.

Kalagala High School allows any student that shows an interest in learning to enroll. The students are required to pay $50 for a three month term but many of these students either work this fee off or are sponsored. As long as the student is developing, showing an interest in learning and wants to be there, they stay once they are enrolled. No one is turned away due to lack of funds.

The students in the school are from senior 1 to 6 (the equivalent of grades 8 to 13 in the North American system). The graduating students passed their national exams with the top marks in the country.

The school is a result of hard work by members of the community and generous donations from people in Canada and Uganda.
